Finalizing the Preparations

Image
Bookplates are affixed and our All Hallow's Read treats are ready to go. This year we will try to keep a tally to see how many books find a new home. And not to worry, we always have candy as well. Some children get very serious when they think that they have to choose one or the other. We love the look on their faces when they find out they can have both.  I do not know just how many years we have been celebrating All Hallow's Read, but I believe that we have done so for at least the last five years. One of our favourite things is when children come running up exclaiming, "It's the BOOK HOUSE!!!" We seem to be known for it now with both children and parents alike appreciating the tradition.

On Finding Treasures

All Hallow's Read will be upon us soon and we are gearing up for another fantastic evening in the neighborhood. We have bookplates ready to place and another quick addition this year.  When waiting for our youngest to get done with percussion lessons, made a quick stop in a nearby book store to see if there was anything to pick up. There was a box on the floor filled with all sorts of books for young children, just exactly in the age ranged that we need. I asked the proprietor, "Tell me about this box of books." She told me all about they had been brought in but not really gone through yet. I shared with her about our yearly Halloween tradition of handing out books and the next thing I know, that box is in my hands and ready to come home with me. So, many thanks to Monarch Books and Gifts  for the timely donation. Please check out the store/website and let them know that their generosity is appreciated.

How We Adjust in These Strange Times

Image
Hello all,       It seemed like I had finally gotten enough momentum to follow through with my idea for this when things went sideways. No longer traveling and all else that has come along this year has made it necessary to adjust. I have decided to couple this with taking walks, still traveling just much less distance. For now I will be leaving books at a variety of parks in the area. I hope that this motivates me to continue walking and to stretch out to different areas to explore on those walks.       So, today I left behind a book of Sherlock Holmes stories. I left it in a ziplock to protect from the weather and labeled it with "Free Book". Hopefully it gets to travel on and is not just swept aside.  On the inside cover I have placed a book plate to hopefully help let people in on the plan. I may go back sometime in the next couple of days to see if this book is still there. Who knows what will happen.
